The Chairman of the Education Commission (EC), Dr David Wong, and members of the EC, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms Michelle Li, visited Buddhist Lim Kim Tian Memorial Primary School on 31 March 2025 to understand the school’s efforts in promoting student’s mental health.

 

The school principal, Mr Ng Wing-hung, briefed EC members on how moral education is incorporated into the school-based co-curricular activities to nurture students’ positive values and cultivate a caring and supportive school culture. Members then met with student ambassadors to learn about how technology is used to encourage regular physical exercise habits, fostering healthy lifestyles, physical and psychological well-being. Members were impressed by the school’s effort in promoting students’ mental wellness and positive values through mindfulness practices and experiential learning. They also interacted with parents and students to learn about how home-school cooperation strengthens parent-child relationships and enhances the healthy development of students.

 

Dr Wong commended the Government’s dedication to the healthy growth of students, in particular, its multi-pronged strategies including an optimised curriculum, a diversified student growth activities and enhanced professional support. The synergy of cross-departmental and cross-sector collaboration, together with the schools’ multidisciplinary teams, amplifies these initiatives, creating a unified framework to enhance the mental health of students, school staff and parents. He believed that these measures not only fortify students’ resilience but also instill a sense of well-being, empowering them to embrace the challenges of personal growth and thrive in an ever-evolving world.
